We are the Community
How did we form?
The Build it Right group was formed following a public round table meeting organized by Diana Whalen on November 2, 2005 at Halifax West High School. It was during the meeting the community realized its own overwhelming disapproval of the direction the mainland common recreation centre. Attendees were largely unanimous in their opinion that the centre as proposed by HRM on October 19th was completely inadequate.
Who do we represent?
Build it Right overwhelmingly represents the community of Halifax West and the citizens who live in it. Through our efforts, we have validated our position by attaining over 7,000 signatures on a petition in a short period of only three weekends. Our membership includes various local sport, community and recreation interests. Our mailing list currently includes over 1,600 members, and since going on-line in November, our web-site has received over 63,000 page hits. In spite of all of this, HRM appears reluctant to recognize us as the voice of the community.
