Ketchum Philanthropy Report

When this happened:
2004

In order to assess the ability of the community to raise funds, the MCRC Society Board contracted Ketchum Philanthropy, a fund raising consultant, to research potential donors.

A list of influential people was put together by the MCRC Society Board and turned over to Ketchum for assessment. Ketchum made contact with people on the list to determine if there was an interest in donating to the project in its existing state, a replacement pool for Northcliffe in Clayton Park. The response was unclear.

Certain potential donors on the list did not live in the community, were not informed on the project, and therefore had no interest in it. Other respondants who expressed interest did so based on the concept of building a replacement for Northcliffe Pool only.

Ketchum's final assessment was that the community could not raise more than $1-million towards a $5-6 million dollar facility. When asked by the board if the potential to raise additional funds would increase if the scope of the project was greater, the response was "probably".

The report was deemed by many as inconclusive.
