A Citizens CALL TO ACTION
Dear neighbors and Friends of the Mainland Common,
As you are aware Build it Right is a voluntary Citizens Action Group comprised of individuals and groups in and around the Halifax Regional Municipality. We are at a critical point in the development of this project and we need your help. Here are the FACTS:
- Almost 3 years have passed since the last Public Meeting on this project,
- The HRM and the Provincial government have finalized their contributions to the project, but won’t announce details to the public,
- Other communities, like Port Hawkesbury, Bridgewater, Berwick and Liverpool involve their citizens in all aspects of the process when building Recreation Centres,
- This is public money, OUR MONEY that is being spent. Democratic Governments are supposed to be accountable for how they spend OUR taxes.
Despite our repeated requests to be informed as to the behind the scenes activities surrounding the design of OUR Recreation Centre we have been denied any information. This is unacceptable.
As taxpayers who will bear the brunt of any decision on OUR Commons we ask you today to JOIN US on Saturday, May 24th at 11:00 am at the Mainland Common Soccer parking lot for a march to the Mainland Common where we will demand an OPEN PUBLIC MEETING where all of the community’s voices can be heard. Bring your friends and your children to demand that the HRM and province begin to listen to the people who elect them.
If you feel as passionate about this as I do…pass it on to your friends and neighbors. We hope to see you on Saturday (Rain or Shine).
(To get to the Mainland Common take Regency Park Drive off Lacewood turn left on Thomas Raddall Drive).
