Meeting? What Meeting?
Health Promotion and Protection Minister Barry Barnet is sticking to his story. Barnet continues to insist he has met with the Build it Right group even though he has not.
On May 7, Halifax-Clayton Park MLA Diana Whalen raised the issue of provincial funding for the Mainland Common Recreation Centre in the House of Assembly. Whalen went on to ask Barnet if he would commit to meeting with the Build it Right group about funding for the Mainland Common Recreation Centre in the in the interest of ensuring the voice of the community is heard.
Barnet's response: "(Diana Whalen) doesn't have her facts straight. In fact, I have met with members of the Build it Right group.".
In fact, the Build it Right group has never met with Minister Barry Barnet.
On May 15, Whalen tabled a letter from the Co-Chairs of Build it right stating "We categorically deny any meeting with the minister, despite our repeated requests". Whalen went on to again question Barnet on who from the Build it Right group he met with.
In his response, Barnet insisted he met with members of the Build it Right group.
In fact, the Build it Right group has made several requests to meet with Minister Barry Barnet about provincial funding for the Mainland Common and each time he has refused to meet with the Build it Right Group.

Why the cover-up?
The distinguishing factor between the multi-million dollar announcements for facilities in other parts of the province vs. the silence regarding the Mainland Common facility must be the collusion between the Provincial government and the backwards HRM gestapo.
I've never seen such a ridiculous circus of buffoonery and missteps regarding a project undertaken by HRM. The total lack of transparency on this issue should point out clearly just how poorly run and arrogant the staffers at municipal level really are. I feel as though I can hardly blame Mr. Barnet because he probably doesn't have a clue what's going on either.
