Funding Announcement Scheduled

Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defense and Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency will join with Premier Rodney MacDonald, Health Promotion and Protection Minister Barry Barnet, and Mayor Peter Kelly for a joint announcement for the Mainland Common Centre.

The announcement will take place on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at 9:00 AM at the Keshen Goodman Public Library, 330 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Current plans for the Mainland Common Recreation Centre include the construction of a field house for the 2011 Canada Winter Games, but HRM has not revealed any details on what other features the facility will have in spite of repeated encouragement to make the plans public.

In a recent poll posted on the Build it Right website (www.build-it-right.ca) 97% of respondents agreed HRM should hold a public meeting to share plans for the Mainland Common Recreation Centre.
